Hitting a deep hue of Indigo - the depth of the color is the quintessential result of tediously dyeing the yarns multiple times by hand, made possible by the expert work of shokunin (craftsmen) based in Tokushima, Japan.

The sukumo is derived from Indigofera leaves grown in Tokushima. In order to produce a natural dye that is capable of penetrating the cotton yarns, all elements (including the soil, branches, and roots) of the Indigofera plant must be added and mixed in the indigo bath.

The persistence that hand dyeing with natural indigo requires, guarantees a fabric with a more resilient indigo color than any chemically-derived indigo dye. This invites for a fabric that will fade very slowly, while gradually revealing the intricacies and variation of hues that natural Indigo has to offer.
