Contrary to the deep hues of Indigo we usually work with coming out of Okayama & Tokushima, Asagi refers to a pale hue of Indigo. The patchwork Sashiko created on base fabrics with slightly variegated hues of indigo harmonized together with four types of sashiko motifs using asagi indigo yarns that were first popularized during the Japanese Heian period. Blending American Tailoring with Japanese tradition, SDA hit a homer with this piece.
The story of the red tab corsage goes back all the way to 1951 when American musician Big Crosby tried to enter a Canadian hotel in his beloved jeans. Hotel staff turned him away, and the world's favorite denim brand caught wind of this situation and produced a denim tuxedo blazer with a famous corsage utilizing a handful of the famous red tabs in a circular fashion. SDA pay homage to this historic incident with the 40th Anniversary "Arts" collection and a replica of that famous corsage that changed the way we look at denim forever.
