An OD+PBJ Collaboration | The Natural Kakishibu Dyed Tees Collection

Our history with the PBJ brand, and the beautiful hue of Kakishibu are forever etched into Japanese Denim history with our previous collaborations celebrating the coveted natural dye. Going back six years ago to our OD+PBJ 18oz. "Kakishibu" Selvedge Jeans, which was followed by the OD+PBJ 18oz. "Kakishibu" Type II Selvedge Jacket cut from the same fabric in 2020. Next up in ‘21 we dropped the OD+PBJ Natural Kakishibu Dyed Slub Tees, and the following year we proudly developed one of the most textured packed Selvedge we’ve seen in 13 years in the game. Creating the OD+PBJ 18oz. "Super Rough Kakishibu" Selvedge Jeans will always be one of the most special moments we’ve experienced. We’ve got to humbly thank you guys for the crazy long delay with that one, but we learned patience is truly a virtue when the full production lot finally made its way through our doors. Last but definitely not least, the OD+PBJ Indigo x Kakishibu Sashiko Selvedge Pants rounds out every persimmon-dyed piece we’ve designed, developed and created in conjunction with Iwaya-san from PBJ. This latest development will round-off our OD+PBJ Kakishibu series, and going into this project knowing that, we wanted to get this one right.

Previously garment-dyed in Natural Kakishibu, this latest collaborative effort is a much more tedious, time consuming and expensive process as they are yarn-dyed in Natural Kakishibu. Raw cotton yarns are hand-dyed in Natural Kakishibu using the Kasezome(skein dyeing) method, before being spun and woven into the slubby cotton jersey fabric featured in this latest capsule collection. The merit of yarn-dyeing is really the longevity of the fading process, with the fabric fading at a much slower and graceful pace then you would get from a garment-dyed Kakishibu piece of the same fabric and texture.

The OD+PBJ  Natural Kakishibu Dyed Tees drop on 4/15 @ Midnight (JST)
