Often worn with suspenders, these early trousers laid much of the groundwork for what would eventually become the modern five-pocket jean. Historically cultivated in the Caribbean before being introduced to the coastal regions of the United States, Sea Island Cotton earned a reputation as one of the finest cottons available. Following devastating pest damage, American cultivation effectively ceased in 1922, before being revived in 2017, nearly a century later.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTo recreate the distinctive character of early denim, Big John makes extensive use of shorter cotton fibres recovered during the spinning process. These fibres introduce the irregularities, neps and coarse surface texture associated with denim from the 1880s.
