Using cotton from the United States as well as Australia, this bi-blended chino fabric is a result of very careful production methods by the folks at Japan Blue and Collect. The rate by which the fabric is produced is a mere 50 meters a day on a vintage shuttle loom, ensuring a carefully produced high quality fabric. The goal when producing the fabric was to create a lightweight chino fabric that would be easy to wear and age well too with constant wear. A Slubby cotton yarn is used for both the warp and the weft to create an imperfect fabric that closely replicates vintage chino fabric, and will also assist in the fading process.
Using a slow dyeing method that was commonplace before the 1950s in Japanese garment production, known as “Home Staining” or Jikka, the dye will withstand more time on the fabric and will age more gracefully than modern dyed fabrics. The beauty of the Chino pants though, is that they look just like regular dress chino pants but will age and fade over time just as denim does. Japan Blue chose to use the traditional dyeing and production methods for these chino pants to ensure that the quality as well as the natural progression of these pants will be just like real vintage chinos.
