Continuing our exploration of Natural dyes for our tenth installation in our ongoing collaboration series, we celebrate the Japanese art of Pomegranate dyeing with our latest design project.
Featuring a proprietary cotton jersey woven for this season, the Wakayama woven fabric composition comprises of an "SZ Yarn", which has a higher thread count than usual. The nature of this thicker yarn delivers a fluffier fabric, while still retaining great shape and structure even with extended wear and washes.
Paying homage to the undershirts of the Dutch Army, detail-driven sewing follows an era-accurate ethos, with the neck and cuff rib construction woven using a vintage method known as tack knitting. Other vintage accurate details include the back shoulder paneling and lock slits on the side gussets.
Skilled artisans command the seam construction of each piece using a Union Special 4-needle flat seamer, a facet of vintage construction that allows for increased seam allowance, thus adding to the comfort element of this piece. The process of production begins with a natural cotton jersey base, with each piece then dyed in 100% natural Pomegranate dye by hand.
*Model is pictured wearing a size M. He weighs 59kg (130 pounds) and is 178cm (5’11”) tall.
**As this is a garment dyed piece, please note that this garment may stain other articles of clothing, given the nature of the pomegranate dye. This bleeding or transfer of color onto other garments can happen when it comes into contact, either directly or during the wash process. We would recommend hand washing this garment with similar colors.
