Using a dye derived from unripe persimmon tannin, or juice, this version of the ODMJ019 is garment dyed in Kakishibu in Okayama, Japan. Kakishibu has been woven into the social and cultural fabric of Japanese society since it initial introduction to Japanese soil in the 13th century. With a wide range of applications, Kakishibu has historically been used to as wood lacquer, as a clearing agent in the production of sake, and even as a cure for hangovers!

Having already gone to lengths of taking Momotaro’s standard Momotaro Jacquard Crest pocket bags and giving them the garment dye treatment in both Kakishibu & Indigo, it only made sense to find another application for those hand dyed fabrics.
Creating a capsule collection to complete the concept of the “Frost” Jeans, the OD+MJ Shirt features an otherwise more forgiving fit that has naturally shrunk quite a but with the garment dyeing process. Each piece is dyed by hand, going through several rounds of the dyeing process to ensure we hit the hues we were after.
