Ajiro is a quintessentially Japanese weave that involves delicately weaving thin strips of bamboo and was historically used to make baskets. Everyday articles created using this particular type of wickerwork were considered indispensable by those who used them - with the pattern even being regarded as auspicious. Heralded as a weave that will attract happiness and protect everything precious for the user - Studio D'Artisan have created from the ground up their latest "Ajiro Denim" series for 2023.

By combining different weave structures in this particular denim prior to performing a factory wash on the garment, the shrinkage results in a particularly uneven texture giving a three-dimensional look to the fabric.

Kakishibu has a deep-rooted history in Japanese craft culture & tradition, dating back to the early 13th century when it was first introduced to Japan from China. Annually in late August, unripe persimmon are harvested as their tannin or juice is extracted. Used as a multi-solution tool, Kakishibu was used to cure hangovers, for wood lacquering and even as a clearing agent for sake, to name only a few of the varied applications of the historic dye.
