Tracing its roots back to the Edo period, Kiriko cut-glass is a form of glassmaking which involves painstakingly cutting intricate patterns and clear colors into glassware. While advanced glass production methods had been originally developed in Osaka, it is said that Tokyo glassmaker Kagaya Kyubei first created the now famed Edo Kiriko glassmaking after honing his skills after several years of serving as an apprentice. Over the years, Edo Kiriko glassware became a highly sought after item and even received praise from foreign visitors, many of whom tried to replicate the techniques in their home countries.
Studio D'Artisan pay homage to a cultural treasure with the introduction of their "Kiriko Denim" collection. The varied hues of indigo intricately woven to form a jacquard pattern, highlight the stunning patterns seen featured on Kiriko glassware.
