Produced by Shintaro-san and his wife at their newly established factory in Gunma, this small-batch release is limited to just 19 pairs. The modest production run is partly a reflection of their recent move and the realities of fitting collaborative work into an already busy schedule. But when you dig deeper, it is also a reflection of the obsessive level of detail and unconventional construction methods employed by Plest, that sets this piece apart.
The foundation is a pair of raw, unsanforized 14oz. Japanese Selvedge Denim, cut in a 1930's-inspired wide straight silhouette. The pattern has been developed around Shintaro-san's own experience of wearing and working in jeans, with a deliberate focus on comfort and ergonomics. There is no cinch back, no waistband extension or rear yoke, all decisions intended to reduce unnecessary bulk and improve comfort around the waist and seat. The result is a clean, uncomplicated shape with a generous fit and a distinctly practical logic behind it.
