Big John's latest jeans are simply put, a tribute to the very beginnings of domestic denim production, drawing inspiration from the era when the brand became the first company to manufacture jeans in Japan. Rather than chasing vintage Americana through Selvedge construction alone, this model looks inward at Japan's own denim-making heritage, recreating the spirit and character of those pioneering garments through entirely Japanese production.

At the heart of the design is a 13oz. denim woven from African organic cotton yarns spun on the rare Ishikawadai spinning machine. Developed in Japan during the early twentieth century, the Ishikawadai machine is prized for its exceptionally slow spinning speed, producing yarns with natural irregularity, softness, and character that modern high-speed machinery simply cannot replicate. These subtle variations create a fabric rich in texture, allowing fades, creases, and wear patterns to develop with remarkable depth over time.

Notably, the fabric is woven on a rapier loom rather than a traditional shuttle loom. This decision is entirely intentional. Rather than focusing on Selvedge as a selling point, Big John sought to faithfully recreate the type of denim used during Japan's earliest denim manufacturing efforts. The result is a fabric that reflects the brand's history and origins, offering a different perspective on heritage denim that is every bit as authentic.

Cut in a relaxed Wide Fit silhouette, the jeans offer generous room through the seat and thigh before falling naturally into a broad, easy-wearing leg.
