Liberato's mule sandal moves easily between dressed-up and dressed-down looks, whether it's a city stroll, a resort day, or a more refined outfit. It blurs the line between a leather shoe and a sandal, combining the elegance of the former with the ease of the latter, in a silhouette that suits all genders.

Hand-made by skilled craftsmen in Nara, a city with a long history in leatherwork and shoemaking, the mule is crafted from Himeji steer leather, carefully tanned using vegetable tannins for a soft touch and natural texture. It's also certified eco-leather, made to minimize harmful substances. The L-shaped cut, inspired by the "L" in Liberato, gives the shoe its sculptural, three-dimensional form, with flowing lines and sharp contours. The upper is left unlined where it touches the foot, so the softness of the leather is felt directly, while still wrapping the foot for a secure, comfortable fit.

The outsole is finished with Vibram #2810, known for its durability and grip, adding just enough volume to keep the silhouette clean. A 3.5cm heel offers subtle elevation without adding weight.

The insole is made from premium Kyushu-grown igusa (tatami rush), valued for its moisture-wicking and deodorizing properties. It's hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture in the air, keeping the shoe fresh even when worn barefoot, and it naturally helps prevent odor. The insole is removable and made from upcycled tatami offcuts; it can be replaced with fresh igusa over time, much like re-covering a traditional tatami floor, so the sandals can be enjoyed for years to come.
