Master-piece's latest "Vary" model is built around a leather that the brand developed with considerable care. Carefully selected domestic Japanese cowhides are drum-tanned using a chrome process, after which dye and waterproofing agents are introduced into the drum and worked deep into the fibres, creating a water-resistant base from the inside out. The hide is then returned to an empty drum for further work, a process that transforms already-soft raw skin into something notably tactile and close-feeling in the hand. To preserve the natural character, the leather is finished with dye only, keeping the surface expression as honest as possible.

The secondary leather trim is vegetable tanned, and is JES-certified across 13 standards (entirely free from hexavalent chromium). Waterproofing agents are also introduced at the tanning stage, giving this leather its own level of weather resistance. The interior is lined with an original Master-piece jacquard fabric in the brand's logo pattern, and the front pocket is fitted with a YKK AquaGuard zipper, a laminated polyurethane film tape fastener with genuine water-stopping properties.

A metal buckle closes the top of the bag and doubles as a carry handle when needed. With the buckle released, a shoulder strap can be attached to the D-rings at the opening for a different carry configuration.
