The Studio D’Artisan “Fox Cotton” Collection celebrates one of the rarest and most meaningful textiles in the world today. At its heart is Fox Cotton, an organic cotton variety developed by agricultural pioneer Sally Fox, who is often called the “mother of organic cotton”. Working on her California farm since the 1980s, Fox revived naturally colored cottons that trace their lineage back over 5,000 years. Unlike conventional white cotton, which requires heavy dyeing processes, Fox Cotton grows in subtle earth-toned hues such as soft browns and greens, allowing the garments to carry the natural palette of the plant itself.

Because the cotton requires no chemical dyes or genetic modification, it places minimal burden on the environment while preserving the integrity of the fiber. Its unique structure contains fine air pockets within each strand, giving the fabric an uncommon combination of qualities: it is lightweight yet warm, quick-drying, breathable, and naturally resistant to UV rays. The result is a textile that feels both luxurious and gentle on the skin, soft in hand, and durable over many wears.

Studio D’Artisan are no strangers when it comes to using Fox Cotton over the years, and have woven these rare fibers into a collection that showcases the beautiful color and texture of this naturally grown cotton. Each piece allows the cotton’s natural beauty to take center stage, highlighting the organic shades that emerge directly from the plant.

This particular piece from SDA pays homage to Baker pants that were commonplace amongst servicemen after WWII. Created as part of a major uniform overhaul after WWII, the very simple design of the pants was to put versatility on a pedestal. Whether being worn on base or out in the field, the breezy fabric and relaxed cut proved to be a hit amongst servicemen during the US military's time in Korea and Vietnam.
