"Kakishibu-zome", or persimmon dyeing, has been practiced in Japan for more than 900 years, with the reddish-brown dye traditionally used for clothing, as well as for its reputed antibacterial and deodorising properties. Often referred to as "sun-dyeing," the color continues to oxidise and deepen when exposed to sunlight and air, developing a richer character with age. A reproduced vintage duck cloth fabric forms the base of these workwear pants. The fabric has been developed to replicate the distinctive horizontal shading and uneven surface character typical of authentic vintage examples. Woven with particularly pronounced slub texture in the weft, the fabric provides an irregular surface that works beautifully with the deep, earthy character of natural Kakishibu dye.

Rather than aiming for a perfectly uniform color, the fabric is hand-dyed to deliberately preserve the unevenness and subtle variations that come with the process. The deep Kakishibu tone settles into the irregular texture of the duck cloth, creating considerable depth and a genuinely one-off appearance.

The combination of the dark persimmon dye and strongly textured slub yarn gives these work pants a particularly powerful presence. The boxier silhouette stays true to the utilitarian proportions of classic workwear.
