Studio D'Artisan's "Indigo Green" series explores a particularly interesting side of Japanese natural dyeing, combining Natural Indigo with dye extracted from Yamamomo (Japanese Bayberry) tree bark to create a color with unusual depth. Rather than being a simple green fabruc, the two natural dyes are layered together, allowing the Natural Indigo to mingle with the softer tones of the Yamamomo dye.
The process produces a deep, settled color that gradually reveals a subtle green cast. Because the color comes from multiple layers of dye rather than a single flat shade, there is a natural variation and depth to the fabric that becomes more apparent the longer you look at it. Studio D'Artisan describes the resulting colour as one that cannot be achieved through a single dye alone, with the overlapping dyes creating its distinctive character.
