An OD+LW Collaboration | The Indigo Dyed Recycled Supima Cotton Freedom Sleeve Pocket Tee

Working with Loop & Weft over the years has really been inspiring, insightful and most importantly, allowed OD to continue on our natural dye journey through the countless collaborations we have done together. Ryota-san started Loop & Weft the same year OD went live on the dot com, in 2012. After spending a decade sinking his teeth into everything denim as the production manager for a major player in the Japanese Selvedge denim scene, he felt the need to venture out on his own. Rather than picking up where he left off to create another denim company, Ryota-san spent months considering what his calling was.

After garnering a well-developed production prowess working with factories in Japan, it was the pieces that pair best with Japanese denim, rather than focusing on denim itself. This led Ryota-san on the unwavering path toward perfection that his journey has led him on for the past 13 years at the helm of Loop & Weft. Already carefully considering and crafting some of the best damn cotton jersey garments coming out of Japan under the tag “Best Knitwear”, the OD+LW collaboration marriage is still as organic today as it first was when we decided to collaborate on our first piece back in 2020, the OD+LW Random Broad Stitch Indigo Dyed classic Henley

Our process always starts with studying the fabric. Developing proprietary fabrics is Ryota-san’s thing, and when he brings new fabrics to present to us, there is a rapport that allows for deep conversations regarding the fabric development - yarn thickness and fabric weave tension that will open up the floodgates on the ideation front. As much as we love our blue hues, we cannot simply overdye every collab piece in varying shades of indigo. It wouldn’t do the fabric justice. Every proprietary development by Loop & Weft has depth, meaning and is always rooted in history. In order to celebrate each respective fabric in the most meaningful way, we study the natural dyes we’ve previously used, consider new dyes, and volley ideas back and forth on which direction to go with the latest collaboration. The OD+LW Series is now in its 24th edition, and we’re stoked to share what we’ve developed with some of our closest allies in the game.

The OD+LW Indigo Dyed Recycled Supima Cotton Freedom Sleeve Pocket Tee drops on 6/12 @Midnight (JST)
