The Holy Grail Status hits new hues! | Natural Indigo Jackets by Pure Blue Japan

We’ve got a serious dosage of Hank dyed Natural Indigo goodness that just touched down a couple days ago, with two Selvedge fabric variations using the coveted Tokushima Natural Indigo yarns.

Hank dyeing is the process of dyeing the cotton threading in a rope-like bunch by hand.

The entire process is conducted and regulated by the Tokushima Japanese Indigo Artisans who have been recognized as intangible cultural treasures to the country. 

The Natural Indigo x Light Indigo fabric features a combination of yarns that go through approximately 12 rounds of warp dyeing & 8 rounds of weft dyeing, giving a variegated aesthetic to the hues of the face of this fabric. The Yarn dyeing process of the weft is closer to an Asagi (Japanese for light blue natural indigo) hue, going through approximately 8 rounds of dyeing to hit that tone of indigo blue.

Just like the Natural Indigo x Light Indigo fabric, the Natural Indigo x Kakishibu version of the jacket will have gone through the same 12 warp x 8 weft hank dyeing process.

Kakishibu has a deep rooted history in Japanese craft culture & tradition, dating back to the early 13th century when it was first introduced to Japan from China. Annually in late August, unripe persimmon are harvested as their tannin or juice is extracted. 

The persistence that hank dyeing with natural indigo requires, guarantees a denim with a more resilient indigo color than any chemical indigo dye. While the fading progress of the fabrics will be much slower than standard rope-dyed denim, you can expect one heck of a denim journey with this special piece of craftsmanship.

Both fabric types will be available in a classic Type II silhouette...
