The real deal silent killers are few and far between in our age of overstated social media content, new brands & weekly drops all over the place. Unwavering dedication and genuine passion toward the craft is something that we champion here at OD, and our latest brand addition is a testament to the commitment they make, with every thread in their range of blue-blooded garments spectacular.
A relatively young brand founded in 2023, Terroir roots its humble beginnings in Fukuyama, Hiroshima as a Natural Indigo dyeing house. What sets Terroir apart from the rest though is their complete approach to producing garments. Long before the yarn is spun or the dye is mixed, the brand tends to its own fields producing the Persicaria Tinctoria plant responsible for yielding the fabled natural indigo dye we love and revere. Once the leaves have been harvested and fermented into Sukumo, the craftsmen at Terroir slowly begin a minimum year long process, beginning by nurturing the dye base for the yarns to weave their respective apparel. This entire process of seed to dye takes the better part of at least a year, with the total yield of useable dye being a fraction of what is harvested on Terroir's farmland. It's almost beggar's belief that this tedious and meticulous process is undertaken by a team of just three people.
The result of this is a palette of blue hues that simply feel alive and are expressed beautifully in the garments that Terroir produce. To showcase the craftsmanship spirit of this small brand, we are stoked to stock their low-gauge woven socks featuring a total of 9 individual hues of natural indigo. Produced in the fabled sock-making town of Koryo-cho in Nara prefecture, the slub yarns are slowly woven on vintage knitting machines. Due the low tension weave of the fabric, these socks are exceptionally soft from the first wear. While simple in nature, these socks are a bold statement of the dedication to the craft and remind us of the deeper narratives behind each thread and hue of blue.
