OD + SDA | The Kasezome Indigo Sashiko Selvedge Baseball Cap

December 19, 2019

Here's a piece we've always sought after, but none of the brands we work with ever produced it. So what better way to celebrate SDA's 40th Anniversary than by creating something we love, using one of their most coveted fabrics to date.
The Indigo Sashiko 6-panel is a marriage of modern styling rooted in Americana and a storied Japanese fabric.
Indigo Sashiko has become a norm with many Japanese denim makers particularly over the past few seasons, but few produce a fabric as heavyweight, lustrous & refined as SDA.
We borrowed one of SDA's Indigo Discharge fabrics from the 40th Anniversary collection to apply as the piping for the 6-panel construction.
Cue the main man, Nathan Spoor, who freehanded the hell out of this original design. Taking cues from the Japanese rising sun flag, we switch out the colors to represent SDA's 40 years (Gold) and our favorite color (Indigo).
Custom metal adjuster to keep the hat fitted, we opted against a leather adjustable strap this time around to allow the sheer weight and durability of the Sashiko.
The 40th Anniversary Indigo Discharge dyed is featured here once again on the underside of the adjustable strap on the rear of the cap.
Opting for a single red & white eyelet is a bold but beautiful move. If you know us, you know we like to do things different. While SDA may never have ordinarily done a bold design decision as seen on this piece, the collaboration allows us to celebrate both the heritage of SDA's 40 year history while also toying with modern design cues by using the slight splash of color.
