The latest arrivals from Master-piece

One of those brands we’ve grown up on ourselves, today I write from my own experience with Masterpiece. I picked up my first bag from the brand when I was back in Japan for the summer during my college days. Hailing from Osaka, the brand always had a strong position in the Kansai area since their inception in 1994, and their elevated luggage options were always high on my wishlist.

That first backpack served me through the next decade, and I used it to death until the time had come to retire my beloved first Masterpiece. The story came full circle in 2019 when we first introduced the brand on our site, as hometown fans (Kansai represent!) of the brand we couldn’t be happier to continue having a growing curation of our favorite Made in Japan luggage purveyor.

Master-piece "Explorer" Backpack

First up from the Explorer series, we have a classic backpack inspired piece featuring a fabric body made from a friction & tear resistant CORDURA Ballistic® 1680d nylon material to ensure this piece is staying with you through the thick and thin. Water resistant, with detailing of the highest quality raw cowhide from Hokkaido, Japan, each of the compartments uses a YKK METALUXE® Tough zipper for its closure. Packing enough functional storage space under the hood to hold all your devices, books, gear and more in the countless compartments, you can pretty much move your life’s essentials around in this one carry all. Sharing the same fabric and detailing, just in a different shape, the drop includes this shoulder bag from the same Explorer series.

Master-piece "Progress" PVC-Coated Backpack

Next up from the existing “Progress” series, a range from Masterpiece we have offered previously, but not in this updated “Progress Coating Version” series. This newest innovation from our friends at MSPC in Osaka is a process of coating the fabric with an environmentally friendly polyurethane. It provides a Matte-like aesthetic & luster, giving the piece a rubber resembling textured fabric face. PVC coating is then added to the back of the fabric to achieve a textile that is impervious to water. Simple & straightforward with the design cues, the magic is in the functionality and versatility of this daily driver, complete with every compartment you can think of.

Master-piece "Aging" Wallet Travel Bags

And to round it off, Masterpiece seem to be taking cues from all these exciting destinations people seem to be hitting again after a serious travel standstill. Made to be your drip when you’re moving through airports and planes while traveling, the bags feature compartments for your passport, cash, credit cards, cellphone & more. The “Aging” in the name is derived from the dyeing processing that the cowhide undergoes, rather than going the usual pigment dyed route, the leather is only finished with natural dye to highlight the original texture of the fine leather.
