Featuring a weave composition that puts both Kakishibu & Indigo on a pedestal, the base of this fabric shares a hue that is identical to our previous Kakishibu denim collaborations with PBJ. Layered on top is the Asagi (Light Indigo) yarns, creating a blend of the two hues that almost look like a shade of deep purple. A chance combination that we didn’t initially intend, the OD+PBJ Indigo x Kakishibu Sashiko was a concept we first took to our Slub Master friends years ago. We knew we wanted the base to be Kakishibu to continue the series in a meaningful way, while having the yarns to be a light indigo because it is a combination we have not seen. Imagine that first time you mixed two colors in class to get a new color that surprised you. That’s the best way to describe the feeling we had upon seeing this sample fabric for the first time.
Sharing the same iconic Sashiko Selvedge weave construction with the unquestionable blue ID, seen on previous models like the Double Natural Indigo Sashiko Pants and the Black Sashiko Selvedge, the latest foray celebrates PBJ’s construction prowess through decades of experience in the game under the lens of our frequently celebrated Kakishibu. Kakishibu has been woven into the social and cultural fabric of Japanese society since it initial introduction to Japanese soil in the 13th century. With a wide range of applications, Kakishibu has historically been used as wood lacquer, as a clearing agent in the production of sake, and even as a cure for hangovers!
For the details, we kept it simple to highlight the fabric as the star player of this project. Opting against our usual Natural Cowhide Tochigi leather patches we’ve been using on every previous OD+PBJ collaboration to date, we toned it down a notch and opted out for a Goatskin brown leather patch instead. The pocket bag and leather patch is where we were able to let loose, and brought in artist and PBJ superfan, Nathan Spoor, for the design. Having fun with the eponymous indigo leaf, we pay homage to the Kakishibu brown hue for the leaf, and switched the shank out for the same Asagi indigo blue used for the Sashiko threading.

The Relaxed Tapered cut has a lengthier front rise, a wider thigh and an aggressive taper from the knee down creating an aesthetically pleasing silhouette, while still maintaining maximum comfort.
