Wabash fabric has a short but remarkable history. Emerging in the early 1900s when steam-powered cylinder printing technology allowed stripe patterns to be discharge-printed onto indigo cloth for the first time, it became the workwear fabric of choice for railroad workers and factory laborers who valued its ability to conceal dirt. Due to the complexity of the production process, true indigo Wabash fabric was manufactured for only around 30 years before the demands of mass production made it economically unviable, and by the mid-1930s it had all but disappeared.
Studio D'Artisan has reconstructed this lost fabric from historical research, developing an original "Ring Wabash" that captures the aesthetic of those early cylinder-printed textiles. The discharge dot stripe is intentionally designed with uneven dye penetration and deliberately irregular fading, referencing the imprecision of early steam printing technology. A layer of beige applied over the top deepens the vintage character further. The result feels genuinely old, as though it has already lived part of its life.
