An OD+PL Collaboration | The Natural Indigo "Ame" Sashiko 6-Panel Cap
Our inaugural collaboration with Plest brings together two things we care deeply about: exceptional fabric and the kind of construction that only happens when a single pair of hands is responsible for every step of the process. Starting with the fabric, the proprietary streaky Natural Indigo "Ame" (or rain) Sashiko is a proprietary development with Tsujimura-Ai, a small family-run operation based in Hamamatsu, Japan. Due to the Kasezome (skein-dyeing) process that is employed in tandem with the irregular undyed Sashiko weave, the resulting fabric is the perfect canvas for a slow and variegated fading process over time.
The construction is the work of Shintaro-san of Plest, the one-man-band responsible for every stage of production from pattern to finished piece. For those unfamiliar with Plest, Shintaro-san is a craftsman of rare focus and discipline, producing small quantities of headwear and garments with a level of individual attention that simply cannot exist at scale. The silhouette is an orthodox six-panel baseball cap construction, structured and clean, paired with a semi-structured trucker-style chainstitch brim that brings a workwear authenticity to the finished piece. The adjuster uses an opening of the same width as a standard jeans buttonhole, completed with red stitching, a color theme that is shared with the custom-produced inner piping and Plest's leather logo tab.
The OD+PL Natural Indigo "Ame" Sashiko 6-Panel Cap drops on 5/20 @Midnight (JST)
