Our inauguralcollaboration with Plest combines a quintessentially Japanese fabric sourced by yours truly, with meticulous construction performed by a one-man band. Produced exclusively for us by Hamamatsu-based Tsujimura-Ai, the combination of Natural Indigo yarns and careful arrangement of undyed Sashiko stitch threads results in a streaky fabric face that truly deserves the "Ame" (or rain) moniker. "Kasezome" is the art of skein dyeing, a hand dyeing method in which undyed yarns are wrapped into a loose coil and dipped into a vat of Indigo. The yarns are dyed to the core while retaining their original texture, a feat only possible when they are meticulously dyed by hand. This results in a much more gradual fading process compared to rope-dyed indigo yarns.
The six-panel dome construction follows an orthodox baseball cap pattern, paired with a semi-structured brim finished in chainstitch construction for a vintage workwear quality at the peak. Four metal eyelets sit at the crown panels for ventilation. A single red inner piping strip runs the interior circumference of the cap, a quiet detail that reveals itself on closer inspection. The adjustable leather strap at the rear uses a metal closure, with the strap eyelet finished in red buttonhole stitching that echoes the construction language of a jeans waistband.
*Adjustable inner brim: 54~62cm (21.2"~24.4")
