January 15, 2021

It's been a hot minute since we have seen Samurai's fabled 25oz. denim and are stoked to have them return to our shelves. While the jeans are oozing with original details, the story of the "Honnoji Incident" is one that we simply cannot pass on entertaining you guys with.
A pivotal moment in Japanese history, the Honnoji Incident was the assassination of ruling daimyo Oda Nobunaga in 1582. On the morning of June 21st as Nobunaga was taking rest at Honnoji Temple in Kyoto, a large force lead by one of his most trusted generals, Akechi Mitsuhide took control and completely razed the site of the famed temple. Oda's body was never found and to this day the true intentions of Mitsuhide's betrayal are still a mystery.
The incident was the turning point of the Sengoku Era. Oda at the time was the only clan leader to have come close to conquering Japan in its entirety in 100 years. In the immediate aftermath, Mitsuhide attacked Oda's Azuchi castle while at the same time sending a messenger to the Mori clan in an attempt at seeking an alliance against Oda's successor Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
However, Toyotoshi managed to intercept the messenger and ended up forming his own alliance with the Mori clan. It is said that following this numerous alliances were formed with former warring clans and Mitsuhide was eventually killed by bandits following the defeat at the Battle of Yamazaki, just 11 days after he had assumed control as Shogun of Japan.
Elements of the story are represented in this truly heavyweight pair. Going above and beyond for the pocket bags, Samurai actually commissioned an illustration depicting the blazing inferno of Honnoji after it was attacked by Mitsuhide's forces.
Taking artistic cues from various eras, the artwork featured on these pocket bags is a fine piece of work on its own and one truly made for the wearer to enjoy.
Not just visually appealing, the blue stitching featured on the pocket arcs are representative of the Blue Bellflower or Kikyo. In addition to being one of the celebrated "Seven Flowers of Autumn" in Japan, the Bellflower was often use as the Crest or Kamon of some clans.
Cut in Samurai's classic S510 silhouette, expect ample room in the top block with a spacious straight leg.
