Wouldn't bat an eye to bet on SDA to continually crank out some of the finest examples of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, all while pushing the boundaries of denim textiles.
Their new Indigo Kasuri Selvedge features some of the most eye watering texture and color gradation we have ever seen in a denim fabric.
Employing the centuries old Kasuri method of resistance dyeing, the yarns used for the fabric are taken and wrapped in dye-resistant threads before being hank dyed in indigo. The result is a variegated range of indigo hues seen throughout the face of the fabric.
One thing to note is that the factory wash performed on the denim essentially "activates" the texture, taking all the irregularities, slub and puckering to a new level.
Cut in the fan favorite 108 Relax Tapered silhouette, expect a roomy set of rises, and relatively spacious thigh, with a sharp taper from the knee down.
The Kasuri craziness doesn't end with the jeans, with SDA doubling down on the fabric with the release of this classic type 1 silhouette jacket.
Just like a vintage trucker jacket, the cinch back belt also features a unique Obi(kimono belt) style Selvedge ID
What we particularly love about this Selvedge ID is the lengths SDA have gone to reimagine the use of traditional Ryukyu "Minsa" weaving patterns.
Traditionally, Ryukyu women would hand weave textiles in patterns which have deep symbolic meaning. The five dot pattern motif in particular was used for weaving textiles which were presented to their spouses to affirm their unending love for one-another.
