With over 40 years of history sitting under their belt, Studio D'Artisan continue to defy the notion that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". In fact it's the opposite, as the Osaka OGs continue to pull tricks out their sleeves and pleasantly surprise us season upon eason. This year is no different, with the brand experimenting with some unique fabrics that we here at OD are vibing with. This week, we showcase a few of the latest arrivals - including some new shirting and outerwear options, as well as one of their most popular Selvedge Jeans in an updated Relaxed Tapered cut.

Studio D'Artisan Indigo Dyed Heavyweight Check Flannel Shirt - $235

No strangers to the Heavyweight Flannel game, SDA knock it out the park with their garment-dyed Indigo Flannels.

Styled like a classic work shirt, the unbeatable detailing makes this piece a contender for year-round wear. Knowing their no-cutting-corners attitude, the rugged construction of each shirt is simply impeccable and will stand the test of time as they fade.

Studio D'Artisan "Katsuo Sashiko" Work Shirts - $280

Inspired by the ocean (and Japan's love of fish!), SDA's latest Sashiko fabrics are known as Katsuo Sashiko (カツオ刺し子), or Skipjack Tuna Sashiko.

Known for its unique color scheme, the fish can be identified by the lightening of Katsuo's body from back to belly. In similar fashion, SDA have used a combination of dark and light indigo fabrics to mimic the characteristics of the Katsuo fish.

The two patterns are inspired by traditional Japanese garments worn around the 18th century, with a particular focus on accentuating the scale-like texture through the blend of color and streaky Sashiko weave.

Studio D'Artisan D1837 15oz. Suvin Gold Selvedge Denim Jeans (Relax Tapered) - $275

Renowned as one the highest-quality premium cottons in the world, Suvin Gold combines a long staple cotton yarn with a very thin fiber width. This paves the way for shuttle-ready yarns that are supremely soft, yet highly sturdy. Another unmistakable characteristic of this type of cotton is the lustrous sheen it gives to the face of the denim fabric.

First released in SDA's Slim Tapered cut, this year sees the addition of this popular model in the fan-favorite 108 Relax Tapered silhouette.

Studio D'Artisan Indigo Kakishibu Sashiko Selvedge Tailored Jacket - $350

Inspired by our favorite natural dye at OD (as seen on several of our previous collaborations), many of SDA's pieces for F/W 2021 revolve around Kakishibu (柿渋). Kakishibu has a deep rooted history in Japanese craft culture & tradition, dating back to the early 13th century when it was first introduced to Japan from China.

The deep Indigo hue featured in the warp yarns are achieved by a hand dyeing method known as Kasezome(or Skein dyeing). Here, the undyed yarns are wrapped into a loose coil and dipped into a vat of Indigo. The yarns are dyed to the core while still retaining their original texture, a feat only possible when the yarns are meticulously dyed by hand.

Studio D'Artisan Indigo Kakishibu Hickory Denim Coverall - $385

Yet another fresh development using both Indigo and Kakishibu dyes, SDA combine both colors in a 1940s "random hickory" pattern fabric. Using 6.7-ban cotton threads to create an uneven fabric face, the nep and variegated hues of color are wonderfully expressed in their latest vintage style coverall that is sure to fade beautifully over time.
