The ODSJ004 “Wagami” Jeans is a project we approached Samurai with back in summer of 2019, with the intention of using one of their Book of Five Rings collection that celebrates colored Weft jeans though the concept of the Earth's five elements.
Continuing our ongoing collaboration series with the sword-wielding denim fiends from Osaka, the fourth installation intends to highlight the inherent beauty of Natural Indigo. Using a conventional industrial indigo Warp, Samurai opted to blend that warp with a Natural Indigo Weft, a combination originally found on the Book of Water Jeans. The coloring of the double indigo in this case is slightly different from your run of the mill Indigo x Indigo Selvedge, in that the indigo hue is lighter due to the Natural Indigo Weft.
Opting for the custom blackout “Sakura” rivets produced exclusively for our collaboration series, the craziest detail brings together this collaboration so much so that we decided to name it “Wagami”. Wagami is the Japanese term for myself, or oneself. The idea here is that we tucked a beautiful “Wagara”, or traditional Japanese inspired fabric into the back pockets. It’s a detail we want you to cherish and enjoy for yourself, and admire possibly when you take the pair off. Not a detail that is meant to be shown off to the world. So with the concept of design discretion, we decided on the name “Wagami”. A pair of jeans with details meant to be enjoyed by a fellow denim nerd.

Featuring a relaxed top block, with an aggressive taper starting from above the knee, the Comfort Tapered cut was designed by Okayama Denim for Samurai Jeans. Imagine the top block almost as relaxed as a regular straight pair of jeans, with a combination of high rise & ample thigh room. With the taper starting from above the knee, the jeans slim down in the calves to a narrow leg opening.
