The base jersey is knitted from a No. 16 single yarn that is indigo-dyed before knitting, with the yarn itself spun using an open-end spinning method, also known as air-spun yarn, where air pressure rather than mechanical twist is used to spin short-staple fibres into thread. This method allows coarser, shorter fibres to be spun together in a way that conventional spinning cannot achieve, producing a yarn with natural unevenness, a dry texture, and a degree of air trapped within the structure that gives the finished fabric a light, breathable hand.
The stripe pattern is created through "Bassen", a traditional Japanese discharge dyeing technique most closely associated with Kyoto Yuzen textile dyeing. Rather than printing color onto the fabric, Bassen removes it, applying a discharge agent to selected areas of the already-dyed cloth, allowing the pattern to emerge through the absence of dye.
