An OD+PBJ Collaboration | The 18oz. "Kurokai" Selvedge Jeans

Embodying the incredible imagination that rests in Nathan Spoor‘s cranium, the "Kurokai" is an imaginary character we created for our Black Friday 2022 at OD.
A combination of the words "black" and "monster" in Japanese, the Kurokai draws inspiration from Japanese fictional characters commonly seen in manga and anime.
After the enormous year of collabs we had last year to commemorate our 10th Anniversary, we omitted a Black Friday denim drop in 2021, after releasing BF exclusive jeans in both 2019 & 2020. Back at it in full force, we team up with our friends and the very first denim crew that joined our brand roster, Pure Blue Japan, for this year’s exclusive drop. Collaborations have become a part and parcel of the offerings at Okayama Denim, beginning in 2014 with our first OD+MJ Wabash Western Shirt collaboration (ODMJ001). To be able to continue bringing ideation to life through these products is not only humbling given the continual support of our denim fam, it is the most fulfilling aspect of the work we do for our team.

 
Featuring a unique weave composition clocking in at a hefty 18oz.’s, the “Kurokai” jeans combine a rope-dyed Indigo Warp that is then Sulphur overdyed in Black. The Weft is entirely Sulphur overdyed in Black, to complete the stealthy monotone aesthetic of this iconic Selvedge. Because of the nature of sulphur in dye form, the face of this fabric will fade first from the deep royal black, to the rope-dyed indigo layer below, which will then eventually fade to ecru with extended wear.

Following our collaboration ethos of packing in as many details as denimly possible, we are proud to put this pair on the pedestal it deserves, commemorating the culminative diligence of Nathan Spoor, Pure Blue Japan & yours truly. With many of the details seen littered throughout previous collaborations, we’ve got raised belt loops featuring OD stitch color branding on a single loop, a custom “Kurokai” leather patch, enamel pin, tote bag & pocket bag all featuring artwork by our man Nathan Spoor, and blackout buttons & rivets complete this exclusive collaboration for BF 2022 at OD. The 18oz. “Kurokai” collection comprises of two pairs of jeans, in Regular Straight (KK-003) & Relax Tapered (KK-019).
