The Momotaro 15th Anniversary "Left-Hand Twill" Selvedge Collection

Let's first put our hands together for Momotaro who are celebrating 15 years in the Japanese Denim game. Over the years the Peach Boys have continued to wow Denimheads around the world, and the brand's sizeable 15th Anniversary Collection seeks to reward its loyal followers with some extra special models. In celebration of such a momentous year for the Peach Boy Brand, we were pleasantly surprised that the brand not only dropped their initial Broken Twill collection, but followed up with an equally stellar Left-Hand Twill collection for Denimheads around the world to enjoy. Peep the full collection below!

Dissecting the Left-Hand Twill Weave

Pioneers of the Denim industry, Lee were the first to use Left-Hand Twill fabrics as a step away from conventional Right-Hand Twill denim. Wearer's were quick to note that the fading properties were much different to Right-Hand Twill fabrics, with the end results typically being fuzzy in appearance and vertically pronounced.
Additionally, Left-Hand Twill denim is renowned as a softer hand feel fabric to a conventional Right-Hand twill denim. For the first time in their 15 year tenure, Momotaro Jeans mill a Left-hand Twill denim and given it some first-class treatment. The beautiful peach and gold color Selvedge ID is worthy of applause and suffice to say, you won't be seeing it again until the brand's next milestone!
  • The Narrow Tapered Cut

Sleek aesthetic and room in the right areas, the Narrow Tapered cut gives you the best of both worlds.
Easily the most popular cut in Momotaro's lineup, this silhouette has a lengthier set of rises and slightly larger thigh compared to Momotaro's Slim cut offerings.

  • The Slim Straight Cut

Anti-taper Denimheads, this is the cut for you. Without deviating into the wide-boi aesthetic, Momotaro's 0205 cut keeps things sleek by keeping the rises small and maintaining a straight but slim leg profile.
One of the more versatile cuts in Momotaro's lineup, this model will work well with any outfit. Whether you are looking to keep it casual with a pair of sneakers and crisp white tee, or go full Americana with a trucker jacket, this model will provide you total flexibility.

  • The Classic Straight Cut

Momotaro's 0905 Classic Straight cut sits right at the tail-end of their silhouette range, sporting a generous set of rises and extra spacious leg dimensions.
If you want to keep those legs nice and airy, these wide bois are a match made in heaven.
One word of caution, while this factory washed fabric won't shrink any further don't expect too much stretch at the waist (we would say 0.5" tops).

The Type II Silhouette

Following traditional cues of the iconic Levi's 507XX Trucker Jacket, Momotaro's Type II Jacket featuring this Left-Hand Twill goodness, drags a vintage icon kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Expect some familiarities such as the lower double check pocket arrangement, knife pleats and adjustable waist buttons. From there on out, it's all Momotaro's bells-and-whistles that complete this piece. The most obvious modification is the addition of hand-warmer pockets which add that well needed element of functionality.

Details for days

Momotaro Design team: "How many details do you want in this collection?"

Momotaro Head of Design: "Yes"

Where do we start? Let's kick it off with one of our favorites. The indigo-dyed leather patch featuring the gold foil painted "15th" logo has one subtle touch that we nearlly missed but deserves a mention. Look closer at the motif of Momotaro to spot him donning an 烏帽子 (Eboshi). These black-lacquered court caps were traditionally worn by boys as a rite of passage upon reaching their 15th birthday.
The Peach Boys have also given the button fly the bling treatment with the inclusion of gold buttons, backed with "15th" debossing.

Under the surface

We can see right away where the design team got the nod to be a bit playful! The discharge dyed indigo pocket bags sport what can only be described as Momotaro's in-house emoji set. Dear Apple, mind adding these in the next iOS update?
Taking cues from a design element usually reserved for their Copper Label series, the yoke on the 15th Anniversary jeans feature a custom woven Indigo Bassen(Japanese for Indigo discharge dye) fabric with the "15th Anniversary" text. While subtle, the green and gold woven label and rayon tab complete this already stellar pair of jeans.

Silver Salute

The collection doesn't end with the jeans and jacket! The Left-Hand Twill train continues with Momotaro's Denim Shoulder Bag.
Silver GTB stripes and a natural leather patch adorned with custom silver "15th" paint are touches made to be flexed.Adding yet another layer of premium quality touches, natural leather pull-tabs complete this piece.
Well that about covers it!

But wait...there's more!

This really is the icing on the cake.
As if Momotaro haven't already outdone themselves they really have sweetened the deal here. Grab yourself a pair and it will ship with a custom 15th Anniversary print carry bag and bandana.
With that all said and done...Happy Birthday Momotaro!
