Jeans became popular during the Mods era in the 1960s as a part of the youth culture and the rebellion against traditional dress codes. Emerging from London and other parts of the UK, Mods were characterized by their love of fashion, music, scooters, and a general rejection of the establishment.

In the early 1960s, jeans were still mainly worn as workwear or by teenagers as casual wear. However, the Mods embraced jeans as a way to stand out from the mainstream and express their individuality. They would wear slim-fitting, tapered jeans that emphasized their slim physiques and paired them with tailored jackets, button-down shirts, loafers or Chelsea boots.
