Equal parts adorable and symbolic, Omoto infuse their indigo DNA into their interpretation of the traditional Japanese Daruma doll. For those unfamiliar, the Daruma doll is one of Japan’s most recognizable talismans, representing perseverance, resilience, and the idea of never giving up. Modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism, the Daruma is designed to right itself when tipped over, embodying the proverb “fall seven times, stand up eight.”

Traditionally, a Daruma is purchased with blank eyes. One eye is filled in when a goal or wish is set, and the second is completed once that goal is achieved. This ritual transforms the Daruma into a personal marker of intention, discipline, and long term commitment, values that closely mirror the mindset behind meticulously constructed garments and the slow process of wear and ageing.
