As part of our 15th anniversary celebration, we're delighted to introduce our inaugural collaboration with Omoto Denim, a project that holds particular significance given the longstanding relationship between Okayama Denim and the man behind the brand, Kishimoto-san. For those familiar with the history of Japanese denim, Omoto is backed by Kishimoto-san’s decades of hands-on experience in the weaving & sewing factories of Kojima, Okayama.

At the heart of the project is our proprietary 14.5oz. "Kumori" Overcast Nep Selvedge Denim, developed exclusively in collaboration with Omoto. The name "Kumori" (曇り), meaning "cloudy" or "overcast" in Japanese, takes its inspiration from the fabric's unusual color composition. Rather than the traditional indigo warp and natural ecru weft, we've opted for an indigo-dyed warp paired with gray-dyed weft yarns, lending the denim a darker, more subdued appearance reminiscent of an overcast sky.

The gray weft also serves another important purpose, bringing greater emphasis to the remarkable amount of nep scattered throughout the weave. Heavy nep denim has quickly become something of an Omoto signature, and we were particularly keen to explore how this characteristic could be combined with an unconventional dye composition. The result is a wonderfully irregular fabric, with small cotton stubs breaking into the surface and lending an almost grainy, richly textured appearance to the deep indigo.

Naturally, a collaboration celebrating 15 years of OD calls for some special details. These include a 27mm Omoto-embossed top button, custom 22mm "OD" embossed metal buttons along the fly, copper male rivets and a single proprietary silver "+" rivet on the fifth pocket. Original laundry record herringbone pocket bags, an OD+OM rayon tab and an indigo-dyed OD+OM sheepskin leather patch further distinguish the jeans, while a custom woven Okayama Denim 15th Anniversary label commemorates the occasion.
