"Kasane no Irome" (かさねの色目) is a classical Japanese color sensibility that finds beauty in the layering of hues, reading depth, season, and emotion through the subtle interaction of colors placed one upon another. Rather than a single solid tone, it is the relationship between colors that creates meaning. Studio D'Artisan has brought this philosophy directly into their latest denim series with two layered dye combinations applied to a 14oz. natural slub base fabric.
These jeans feature a combination of black dye over a foundation of Bengara, producing a deeply subdued dark hue with a hint of red living beneath the surface. One of the defining characteristics of Bengara-dyed denim is its exceptional longevity. Unlike plant-based dyes, Bengara is highly resistant to fading and color change, allowing it to retain its rich, earthy hue over time. This makes it one of the most durable and sustainable dyeing techniques, ensuring that the fabric’s unique character only deepens with age and wear.
