Studio D'Artisan's "GL3 Circulation" Jacket takes a rather satisfying approach to denim production: instead of starting with new fibre, the fabric itself gets another chance at life. Worn and discarded fabric is broken down and returned to fibre before being spun into recycled yarn. Because the original material has already been through the mill, quite literally, the resulting yarn is naturally uneven, with variations, neps, and a subtle slub-like character.

Studio D'Artisan uses this recycled yarn as the weft in its original GL3 denim, weaving the fabric slowly on the GL3 power loom. The combination of an old-style loom and inherently uneven recycled yarn gives the denim a distinctly different character from the more uniform appearance of conventional new yarn. Rather than trying to tidy everything up afterwards, Studio D'Artisan leaves the irregularities intact.

The finished fabric is deliberately allowed to retain its variations, with the unevenness of the fibres, neps, and subtle inconsistencies coming together to create a rugged, dimensional texture. There is something new about the concept, but the resulting denim has a distinctly familiar quality, as though it has somehow arrived with a little history already built in.
