The Big John "Ruri", "Koiai" and "Gunjyo" Jeans all hold a sacred part in Big John's history books, being that they were the three key models that put this Japanese denim powerhouse on the map.

In 1967, in an effort to fully understand and replicate US-made Denim, Big John commissioned an American made and sewn denim from Cone Mills that featured a unique lighter-blue tone. Dubbed the "Ruri" (or Japanese for Deep Blue Gem), the color and texture of the fabric set the tone for the meteoric rise that Big John were about to pursue.

Not one year later and we welcome the arrival of Big John's "Koiai" denim. Using deadstock fabric available from White Oak Mills, Big John once again lead the charge for Japan-made denim by being the first brand to sew jeans on its own soil.

Fast forward to 1973 and Big John release the "Gunjyo" model - the very first entirely Made in Japan pair of jeans. Featuring all the hallmarks of the "Ruri" and "Koiai" models, the "Gunjyo" Jeans firmly set themselves as the new benchmark for decades to come in Japanese Denim, and cemented Big John's legacy in the history books.
