Conceptualized, designed and developed in-house by yours truly, we're stoked to drop the very first through-on-through OD piece which celebrates "Made in Japan" and our Indigo DNA. Designed through a traditional lens, the OD Indigo Selvedge Sashiko Haori combines a proprietary fabric with meticulous details that encompass close to two years of development. Clocking in at 14.5oz’s of a proprietary Sashiko Selvedge we developed from the yarn with our friends at Nihon Menpu in Ibara, Okayama, this piece allowed us to flex our creativity and experience to develop a piece that is simply not available on the market otherwise. We love Haoris, but wanted something a little more substantial in terms of fabric weight and structure than our current offerings online. As a salute to our Selvedge heritage, the "self-finishing edge" is purposely featured throughout the inner layer of the Haori, along with the locker loop just beneath the collar area.

While preserving the classic aesthetics of the traditional Japanese Haori, we made a few adjustments to the construction to enhance the wearability of the garment. By combining a classic set-in front with a raglan back sleeve construction, the haori maintains its sharp silhouette from the front while allowing greater freedom of movement and comfort through the back and arms. Two details we have integrated from past OD+ projects make a welcome appearance in this piece. First we have added handwarmer pockets that are lined with a gold "Hokko" Satin fabric, a detail we previously reserved for our OD+SDA Indigo Sashiko Bomber Jacket projects, which is inspired directly from souvenir jackets (or "Sukajan") fabrics from the post-WWII era. It also wouldn't be an OD piece without our custom hardware and in this case, we feature a single "OD" embossed snap-button at the front which is a departure from the traditional drawcord closure often seen in traditional Haoris. Finally, we breathe new life into vintage kimono fabrics that we have collected in the past by custom producing both a woven tab and collar label that are featured on each piece.
