People from all walks of life visit to gently rub the soles of Billiken's feet in the hope of turning their wishes into reality.
Originating from the United States and brought to Japan around 1908, Billiken was created by the talented female artist Florence Pretz. The base of Billiken's statue carries the inscription, "The God of things as they ought to be." In Japanese, this translates to "the deity governing the ideal form of things." It reflects the belief that Billiken guides circumstances toward the way they should be.
