No shortage of Selvedge & Sashiko here!

June 03, 2021

The simmering heat won't stop the steady stream of Selvedge fire this season. This week's drop includes the return of PBJ's coveted Sashiko Jeans, the addition of two new cuts featuring PBJ's 13.8oz. Nep Denim, Heavyweight selvedge from Samurai and if that was not enough - Selvedge Shorts from JB featuring their 13.5oz. Cote D'Ivoire fabric.
Popular since their initial arrival in 2019, PBJ's Selvedge Sashiko Jeans make their return in both Indigo and Black variants.
No changes to the aesthetic, these are still cut in the fan-favorite -019 Relaxed Tapered silhouette. You will be relieved to know that as the jeans have already gone through a factory wash process much of the guessing game is taken out of the sizing process. Expect about 1 inch of stretch at the waist over time.
Rope dyed yarns combined with PBJ's proprietary Sashiko weave give the fabric a beautiful inky indigo hue while being almost scale-like in texture.
By far the softest Sashiko fabric in terms of feel, you can rock these year-round without breaking a sweat while you work those fades.
Just as versatile, the black Sashiko variant offers a different experience altogether. The sulphur dyed fabric is a slower fader overall and you can expect these to evolve into a dull gray color over a very long period of wear.
What we especially love about these is how the jeans sport the same bells and whistles as any of PBJ's 100% cotton denim lineup. Both models feature a unique goatskin leather patch and leaf logo along with raised belt loops and PBJ's metal hardware throughout.
Doubling down on PBJ releases this week, we have the final two cuts of the 13.8oz. Nep Selvedge rolling through.
Following up with the initial release of the NP-13.8oz-003 Regular Straight model, we round off this series with the addition of the NP-13.8oz-013 Slim Tapered pictured above...
Along with the NP-13.8oz-019 Relaxed Tapered model.
Moving onto our sword-wielding friends from Osaka, Samurai's S511XX19oz-II model makes its entrance through our doors. Essentially the beefed-up version of it's 15oz. cousin the S0511XX Jeans, the uber rough-and-tough unsanforized Otokogi denim is to this day one our no. 1 recommendations as a gateway pair into the heavyweight range.
While the renewed S511XX19oz-II model for 2021 no longer features Samurai's red rayon tag from previous seasons, a new S∀MURAI tab is featured on the back right pocket along with tonal stitching arcuates.
Getting back to the more Summer appropriate lightweight option, Japan Blue's new Selvedge shorts for 2021 feature their 13.5oz. Cote D'Ivoire fabric.
This exact fabric was the result of a partnership with the Ivory Coast that stems back to 2014. The original idea was to take jeans back to their original roots using only hand-picked cotton which eventually lead the Japan Blue team to source it directly from farms in the Ivory Coast. Not only does the fabric reflect the painstaking work that goes into producing the material but provides a boost to the dying cotton industry in the country. Furthermore, Japan Blue have continued to redirect a portion of the profits back to the infrastructure development of the Ivory Coast.
Still on of our favorite Selvedge details to date, the unique selvedge ID featuring the flag colors of the Ivory Coast and Japan represent the continued friendship between the two countries thanks to this ongoing denim development.
Now that you've acquainted yourself with all that Selvedge, well...you deserve a special surprise to round things off.
Back just in time for Summer, the OD exclusive Indigo Slub Pocket Tee by PBJ makes its return to our shelves.
Featuring some streaky Slub, chainstitch construction throughout, and both a fit and fabric overhaul from the original release from several years ago, it’s a tee that’s been tried and tested through time.
