Once again, the purveyors of the "Best Knitwear" are back with what they do best for F/W 2020 - mind blowing cotton jersey knits. For our fourth collaboration with Loop & Weft, we combined meticulous construction with 100% naturally derived Kakishibu. When we say Natural Kakishibu, we mean it. With the dye derived from the middle of an unripe persimmon, the extracted natural tannin is then used to garment dye our collaborative Jacquard knit sweatshirts, one piece at a time. The end result is our latest collaboration item, the ODLW004 Natural Kakishibu Dyed Vintage Jacquard Knit Crewneck Sweatshirt.
Featuring a proprietary Jacquard Knit developed by L&W for F/W '20, the fabric's contrasting jacquard weave is made possible by customizing a French Terry knitting machine, of which only two exist in Japan.
Playing into the extended experience and knowledge of the vintage French Terry knitting machine, the artisans are able to manipulate the machines to output an incredibly unique and rare textile.
A Union Special 4-needle flat seamer machine commands all the seam construction, while a 2-needle machine is responsible for attaching the ribbed material to the garment.
Starting with an Ivory cotton base, the sweatshirts are dyed by hand, one piece at a time. Given the contrasting jacquard nature of the fabric and weave, the penetration of the natural Kakishibu dyed is also variegated, celebrating a range of natural Kakishibu hues.
The delicacy of a natural Kakishibu dye can be realized upon contact with sunlight, darkening the brown color hue of the garment over time. This is the element of the wear with this piece that we are most excited to see! As the stress points should fade as with any dyed fabric, the overall shade of sand beige will deepen to a darker brown with wear.
