The Momotaro 15th Anniversary Collection

January 08, 2021

It feels almost like yesterday that we were announcing the launch of the Peach Boys 10th Anniversary (back in March 2016). Time flies when you're having fun. Well here we are again, commemorating 15 years strong for the fam over at Momotaro.
15 years of elevating denim and striving to produce new and interesting garments each season has raised the bar for possibilities in this niche denim space. No easy feat by any means, but the final products have always impressed, and the Peach Boys continue to be a stalwart ambassador for denim hailing from Okayama.
Just as we enter the New Year, Momotaro are proudly announcing the launch of their 15th Anniversary Collection which will feature items encapsulating their identity and heritage, while commemorating the decade and a half with what looks to be an emoji-ridden discharge dyed indigo pocket bag.
The 15th Anniversary Jeans feature a proprietary 15.7oz. Broken Twill Selvedge Denim which will be available in the 0105 Narrow Tapered, 0205 Slim Straight and 0905 Classic Straight cuts.

Originally developed and brought to market by Wrangler back in the 1960s, broken twill was meant to serve the function of minimizing the inevitable leg twist commonly seen on unsanforized denim. Broken Twill alternates from left to right on every two warp ends, creating the coveted zig-zag twill that is apparent upon turning the cuff and studying the twill.

Vertical streaking is an eye-catching property of type of fades you can expect with this type of fabric.

As a salute to a very special year for the Peach Boys, Gold graces the unmistakable Pink Selvedge ID, eponymous to Momotaro Jeans.
Continuing with the Gold theme, each button featured in the fly is debossed with "15" marking their fifteen years in the denim game.
One subtle yet impressive change to the motif of Momotaro featured on the Indigo dyed leather patch caught our eye. Donning an 烏帽子 (Eboshi), these black-lacquered court caps were traditionally worn by boys as a rite of passage upon reaching their 15th birthday.
Taking cues from a design element usually reserved for their Copper Label series, the yoke on the 15th Anniversary jeans feature a custom woven Indigo Bassen (Japanese for Indigo discharge dye) fabric with the "15th Anniversary" text.
The custom-lined chambray print yoke and Green + Gold rayon tab are a welcome addition to this otherwise clean pair.
The two screen-printed GTB stripes representing Japan are the unmistakable detail which require no introduction and continue to be a pillar of identity in Momotaro's garments.
Featuring the same 15.7oz. Broken Twill Denim, the Type II Jackets for the 15th Anniversary Collection will feature much of the same bells and whistles featured on the jeans.
Hand-warmer pockets are a welcome addition to a classic piece in the Momotaro lineup.
Custom print pocket bags feature a small yet humble gesture of gratitude for the fans of the Peach Boy brand which have repped the brand hard over the years in all four corners of the globe.
If that was not enough to satisfy your palette, Momotaro will also be dropping a custom-print T-shirt in two colors.
Featuring not only his animal companions, adorably included in the lineup is an Oni (demon) joining the gang to partake in the 15 year festivities.
The 5.2oz. Zimbabwe Cotton fabric is to this date still one of the most wearable and body-conforming T-shirt fabrics that we have come across.
Due to the limited availability of the items from the 15th Anniversary collection, we will be collecting pre-orders until the 14th of February. With the exception of the T-shirts which are due to be delivered to us in Mid-July, all items are expected to be delivered to us in Mid-August.
