Following the zodiac calendar format, Samurai's second release of this special 12 year spanning series has just landed through our doors. The "Year of the Ox" Selvedge Jeans incorporates some fine details paying homage to our bovine friends, combined with an unbeatable veteran fabric that has been part of Samurai's lineup since the brand's inception.
The rough-and-tough 15oz. "Otokogi" selvedge denim features a 100% Texas cotton composition, known for its short fibre length. This results in truly rough and irregular yarns which, in true Samurai fashion are twisted strongly to produce a very rugged fabric face. Since its first ever production run in 1998, the fabric has been reworked over a span of 8 years. The fourth rendition of the "S0510XX" denim was released in 2006 and officially given the "Otokogi" moniker, which has remained unchanged to this day.
Here's an interesting historical tidbit about the "Otokogi" denim. The first ever edition of this fabric released in 1998 as the S510XX model actually featured a classic red Selvedge ID. Following the second renewal of the fabric in 2003, the addition of the now iconic silver lamé "Katana" Selvedge ID has become a mainstay in the Samurai lineup.
Featuring a custom-made goatskin leather patch, the chǒu (丑) character represents the second of the twelve Earthly Branches.

Black and white threads featured throughout the jeans, providing the perfect mix of tonal and contrast color stitching construction.
Cut in Samurai's classic Regular Straight silhouette, expect ample room in the top block with a spacious straight leg.
